I agree, but sometimes people don't have a choice (or much choice) about where to live.

We had to move from the Twin Cities to Atlanta in 2004 on three weeks notice. We tried to make the best of it. Got a rental house, stayed there for several months while learning the area, and finally decided to buy in a location we liked that was close to the stuff we wanted to be close to.

RC, a move like that would most certainly leave a bitter taste in most people's minds. It has always been my impression that many of Atlanta's biggest haters were forced to relocate here against their will. But you seem to have made the best of it and really enjoy Atlanta. What's the secret?

Well, we had to move down here. We were running out of cash, that was something we couldn't easily change, and I had a solid job offer down here, so I tried at first to make a bit of a game out of comparing this new metro area (eight years"new" now, I guess) to the old metro area we left. It was a new place to explore, and I've grown to like it.

There are also a lot of things down here that I would never have experienced without us moving down here in the first place. Georgia wasn't that high on my list of places to visit before we moved down here. Now I know better, but I really didn't know much about the state before. I love history, and my wife and I also spend a lot of time driving around the state and local region and exploring things. That helps keep it interesting.

I think the mindset a person has makes a huge difference. I get frustrated by certain things, certainly, but most of them aren't related to the fact that I'm living in GA now instead of MN.

Default "Bible Belt" Move

The "Bible Belt" in my and my family's experience does not live up to its title, and most people do not know how to mind their own business, especially in church communities. There are a lot of people in church, but for the most part have left GOD out of their hearts, more "Seekers of pleasure" than GOD seekers...There are some decent neighborhoods, even south of Atlanta, but it takes a lot of prayer to find them, HOA neighborhoods are helpful...As far as racism is concerned, have you ever experienced black on black racism?, it does exist, whether the culprit is self-hatred or not, or a lack of understanding economic racism's existence (there are very few good employment opportunities in South Fulton) I do not know, but it does exist more than out of culture physical racism (depending on where you reside)...Make sure it is GOD who is telling you to move to Atlanta is the best I can tell you!!!
GOD Bless, and LORD Have Mercy if you do make the move.

I would hope God has more important issues to be concerned with than which city OP should move to. lol

The correct answer to your poll is C) All of the above. Atlanta, like most major metro areas, is too big for the answer to be either/or.

Good post!

This reminds me of the famous, long running column in the Atlanta Constitution, "Why Do The Heathen Rage?"

Walter Martin's Religious InfoNet - Why Do The Heathen Rage?

We need a walmart close by cause that's how some of our income is coming in. I don't wanna be far from ATL because i'm a city person and i would like to go out and explore. We want a family place but also a place for young adults. How is GA employment? Is it expensive for the activities that atlanta offers? I don't want to be more than 30min from ATL because we have to travel there every friday. I want to be in a place that isn't racially segregated and where racism isn't a problem. There must be good schools preferably a greatschool rating of 8-10 maybe 7 will do and it would be nice if they have programs that teach you some of the college careers to prepare you for what you want to do once you do go to college. Would like a school demographic wise to be like %55 white 25 asian 20% african-american (example doesn't have to be exactly the same). Thanks again if i left something off please ask.
Two words: judge.........................mental

Although I do admire your desire to live in a really diverse area. I would recommend areas of Gwinnett like Lillburn and Suwanee and maybe areas just east of Marietta.

Move north of 285 between 75 and 85. 75 side for more whites, 85 side for more mix.
