Then why are you voicing an opinion about it, and (apparently) trying to defend it here?

This bitchin about GA reminds me of how Europeans complain that the US has "no culture and history"

And don't say that the black mecca is Atlanta's identity. You should never use race to brand your city. How would this attract a diverse group of people?
I tell you.

1. New south, Rising from the flames of the civil war which is why the flag has the phoenix bird on it. Gone with the wind. Metro Atlanta probably has more civil war battle sites that many other metro. After the civil war Atlanta became a symbol for a new industrial south. Even during the Olympics this was part of the opening. So I Look at Atlanta as a rebel against New Orleans Antebellum south, Since Atlanta birth and history is associate with rail road and industry when most the southern cities weren't.

2. Yes black American history and culture is part of the city, during the civil rights movement many civil right organizations where head quarter here. Atlanta was important in the life of WEB Dubois, marcus garvey and Booker T Washington. You can't tell me Hispanic culture isn't a part of Miami. And I'm not saying black culture is the only thing to Atlanta that's not what saying. I saying part of the blend. New York Italian culture or Midwest German history.

3. Since the other big southern cities are at fringe of the south. I do view Atlanta as the culture capital of the south, as far as media and etc goes.

4. Atlanta layout and environment. Most American cities are dominate by a grid Atlanta is not for good or bad. And Atlanta is known to have one the most dense tree county covers in county. I'm not even going to get technical with the character and history of the neighborhoods.

Aficionado post this while back.

fair enough, but then when you spit out a gem like this one here:

Atlanta is nothing but a bunch of strip malls and SFH/Mcmansion subdivisions surrounding a small, not even uniformed dense core. It's culture is heavily lacking and there isn't much historic about this city. The only reasons Atlanta looks beautiful is because of the endless trees covering it. Without these trees, Atlanta would look like another Houston or Dallas...bland suburbs only made to provide a home for people. Neighborhoods are just that in Atlanta...areas that provide shelter for families and nothing more.
it makes it clear you have no ****ing idea what you're talking about.

take a trip to va-hi, little five points, inman park, EAV, west end, druid hills, west midtown, cabbagetown, grant park, and the beltline. atlanta has a ton of historic homes and character, you just obviously have no interest in participating in it. it doesn't mean it isn't there.

Georgia is known as a progressive state with high-tech. Brands like Coca-Cola and UPS are cutting edge lean competitors.

Well said, Georgia like usual is a model in dealing with issues. The Natives here weren't treated as they were in places like Vermont or New York. A model for the ages, that's Georgia.

It doesn't seem like it to me, for two reasons mainly: 1) the mountains lack a city of the size and appeal of Savannah and 2) the TN and NC mountains are more popular destinations than the N. Georgia mountains. I'm not saying there's no tourism there, because there is--Helen, Blue Ridge, etc.--but the two reasons I gave are why it seems to me that the region doesn't have nearly as much of a reputation as coastal GA.

FAIR ENOUGH! But people down in Florida sure do envy our mountains! Compared to the little "hills" that Alabama and South Carolina call "mountains," ours are definitely worth marketing and part of Georgia's "brand."

I don't understand the disdain against strip malls. You'll find that there are MANY hidden gems at a strip mall, and this notion is especially true in Atlanta.
