All I have to say 2012, what a year for the region. Okay despite our transporation and traffic woes. The Atlanta region as a whole had some amazing things to be proud of this year. Since I'm a economic junkie, my biases will definetely be along the economic view , but feel free to add the Atlanta's and the region greatest accomplishments in your eyes. Whether in be in the area of Arts and Entertainment, Education, Govenment, Business, etc. I will list my five economic wins for the Atlanta region . What are the top five things that please you the most about the Atlanta region 2012 progression ?

1. The opening of the new International terminal at Hartsfield.

2. The construction of the Porsche new North American Headquarters near the airport.

3. Baxter's International Billion dollar construction project in Covington

4. The Streets of Buckhead restarts its construction.

5. Atlanta based ICE purchase parent company of NYSE and will have dual headquarter in Atlanta and New York.

I would add the opening of the Eastside BeltLine Trail. It has drawn national attention to the overall BeltLine transportation project and it's immediate popularity show how underserved the Atlanta is when it comes to parks and walkable trails.

2012 has been a huge year in terms of announcements. We've got the following:

- Ponce City Market
- CFB HOF is going to go through
- Civil Rights Museum is going to go through
- Caterpillar factory in Athens
- Baxter factory in Social Circle
- Buckhead Atlanta is getting restarted
- (probable) GM innovation center to Roswell
- Mando auto parts plant in Hogansville (660 jobs, just recently announced, although it didn't get much attention)
- Stadium likely being developed

That's a whole lot of stuff that will come online over the next few years. And probably 20 active projects for pretty significant apartment developments. You've got to be happy about that if you live intown.

Finished projects mainly were just the international terminal, the Beltline trail, and not much more. But there will be a whole lot opening next year. Both Midtown highrises, for instance.

The biggest news of the year by far is that metro Atlanta didn't lose 10,000 jobs over 2011 as originally thought, but actually gained 35,000. So our economic recovery has been roughly average all along; for a while there were a ton of "Atlanta is doomed" type articles that turned out to be completely incorrect (although the acknowledgement of this development has been very fragmented) because they were based on preliminary labor data that was later revised by the USBLS. As of this time 12 months ago, the consensus was that Atlanta is going to go through a long period of contraction/stagnation.

I am continually amazed by how the city becomes more and more urban and how quickly it changes. 2012 brought back cranes all over Midtown and Buckhead and the start of a new building boom.

Eastside Trail and International Terminal were the two most prominent events to occur this year in Atlanta. Eastside Trail however intrigues me more and I like it.

I would add that it seems the Midtown Mile is finally coming to fruition with tons of new restaurants and shops opening up in spaces all along Peachtree, spaces that were empty for a long time.
