ooo and if it lit up red at night!!! That would be awesome!

Before too many more general naysayers make their way to the thread...

We need to remember a few basic things

1) For every great ambitious project that produced, there are several that aren't. That is the nature of ambitious ideas. Some work out; Some don't

2) If something costs a lot of money... It takes a long time. It doesn't happen over night.

3) If we want some things to happen, the public has to be willing to fund them. This means the evil T word: taxes. Currently the biggest new funding mechanisms we have are directly or indirectly tied to property values. The recession put many doable projects on the backburner, because of the collapse of property tax revenue. This doesn't mean we can't do more in the future.

Aries - I think the college sports and SEC museum was probably suppose to be the new college football hall of fame museum. To the OP it is happening, but there have been delays.

I think almost all the projects on this list have been (or would have been) funded by private money, not taxes. The exceptions might be the Streetcar and the proposed high speed rail link to Chattanooga.

What ever happened to the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra Hall?
That was supposed to end up being an iconic landmark...
ASO, apart of the Woodruff Center, grows and receives its funding by government assistance, private donations, and private proceeds. You can't really separate the effects of private and government money.
What ever happened to wanting the 17th Street Bridge to be an iconic symbol?
This projects Stakeholders were private and public via the GDOT, the midtown CID, and the Atlantic Station TAD. This also btw is why Mathmans AJC comment is unfair. The AJC reported a reality being discussed. The bridge a short suspension bridge was not out of the question and there were two semi-private groups that put money into the project.
What ever happened to Atlanta Center Tower?
Admittedly, I'm not sure what this is. The phrase "Atlanta Center" makes me think of a medical center or other social services, but I'm clueless
What ever happened to the C-Loop idea?
A public transit intiative
What ever happened to the Disney Theme Park west of Atlanta?
Unsure; possibly see next answer
What ever happened to the indoor ski slopes North of Atlanta?
A $1billion private project that was lobbying state legislatures for $250b in tax breaks; private investment requiring some gov't action
What ever happened to the proposal to petition the Air Force to Make Dobbins AFB a split/multi use airport for regional commercial and cargo air traffic?
Public property re-ruse/transportation
What ever happened to the Multi-modal Passenger Terminal?
Public transportation; public-private ivestment, but still heavily public.
What ever happened to the Atlanta Casino at Underground?
Local government subsidized property, but yes new improvements via private funding on land with existing government investment.
What ever happened to the College Sports Museum and the SEC Museum?
Private money, but only possible by land from the GWCC which is gov't owned.
What ever happened to the Mandarin Oriental?

What ever happened to Trump Towers?

What ever happened to the push to bridge Home Park (West side of Downtown Connector) back with the rest of Midtown Atlanta?
Gov't transportation improvement
What ever happened to the Cultural Museum at Centennial Park?

What ever happened to the 2nd Tower for Twelve Centennial Park?

What ever happened to 3630 Peachtree Road Towers?

What ever happened to the 18th Street Condominiums?

What ever happened to "the new Buckhead Village" (forgot what else to call it)? Wasn't it actually under construction? Haven't been that way to Buckhead in a while, so where's that stand?

Is the Peachtree Street Car still happening?
Gov't transportation improvement
What ever happened to Westside Park and turning the rock quarry into a lake?
City Gov't/Beltline project
What ever happened to making Water Works into a park?
City Gov't Beltline Project
What ever happened to wanting an observation deck tower near Atlantic Station, taller than the Sun Dial?

What ever happened to GLG Park Plaza and the Mayfair Towers?

What ever happened to the high speed rail between Atlanta and Chattanooga Airports, or Atlanta and Macon?
Transportation
What ever happened to Twelve 14th Street Tower?

What ever happened to Millennium Buckhead?

What ever happened to Centennial Hill Tower?

What ever happened to CNN Turner Tower?

Also, don't forget these were some of the first projects discussed in a nay-saying fashion, which is what I was addressing in part.

WHAT?!?! That was never in Coke's plans! It was a "what if" idea that I suggested on this site back a year or so ago!

Wishing for a new coke tower
