30k call center job is much better than the usual 20k call center job. 30k is nothing to sneeze about, especially for lower class or new grads. Being on the MARTA line is even more of advantage.

I am single with no kids and moved here on for a 30k job and I wasn't comfortable enough to not worry about paying students loans, bills, rent and having gas money until I got to 40k and above. 30k is borderline poverty especially with kids unless you have roommates or live at home.

That's your personal experience, 30k single with no kids is nowhere near poverty in the traditional since, and it is your personal poverty level. You do not need a college education to work in a call center, thus a person who fits your demographic and had no student loans, or car (MARTA) and had a roommate would live very well. Hell even with a modest car, you could live well with 30k. I graduated in 2002, I worked this exact type of job and made around 32k and I had plenty of disposable income, sure things are different today, but it's not poverty. That is around $2,150.00 after taxes, which a 22 year old today would have a hard time claiming poverty.

Why are you angry that metro Atlanta will be receiving these new jobs?

I've been hearing that many of those jobs that were outsourced to India are now being brought back because it is actually becoming cheaper to just keep them here. I don't know how true it is but some coworkers were telling me this.

I make about a few thousand dollars over that and I'm living ok. But 40k will allow me to live comfortably. BTW, some call centers do pay that in the area, but you have to have a degree

No, these are not $30k a year call center jobs. Most of the entry level jobs are enterprise level Help desk starting at $45k +. Not bad for a new college grad. Many other jobs are for highly skilled developers, product specialist and sales that are well into the 6 figure range. Nice try with the negativity, but this a great tech company to have in the Atlanta area.

A guy that I went to high school with works in the sales department and supposedly gets a decent salary. I'm not surprised. IT jobs pay pretty well....it seems like a cool company to work for.
