I'm a bilingual (spanish/english)school social worker in NYC relocating to do the same in GA. I have extensive experience with the homeless and urban school systems. I'm looking to work in "urban" or "inner city" schools. Based on my research, I'm looking at APS and Fulton County for employment. What would you suggest as a decent commute? I'm looking to purchase a two family home which limits many communities. Any suggestions on job search and housing would be greatly appreciated.

See you soon GA

Don't disregard some of the other county school systems. There is a growing Hispanic population in Cobb County as well as Gwinett County that is feeding children into the crowded schools. I would imagine that a bilingual social worker would be very welcome in those counties as well as the city of Atlanta and Fulton County. You might find more housing options for your family as well.

I focused on Fulton and APS due to the salaries. I'm trying to minimize the salary cut. I will look into these counties as well.

Be prepared for similar (or possibly even worse ?) child social services in Georgia.

God bless you for what you do.

Thank you for the compliment. The truth is that every setting or population isn't for every social worker. I specialize in the following populations: homeless, persons affected by Multiple Sclerosis, children (under 3) requiring early intervention services and school aged children. I won't relocate to work in child welfare. I have the utmost respect for social workers that can and do, but that's not where I would be most effective.
