Atlanta's Vine City neighborhood remembers MLK - Atlanta News, Weather, Traffic, and Sports | FOX 5

wow! i am surprised to see this on a local news channel, seeing as how all the focus these days is constant reporting on violence and mayhem and why you shouldn't live in the city, basically thinly veiled racism.

i live in alpharetta but i discovered vine city a couple of years ago on my own. for those that aren't familiar with it, it's the neighbourhood directly north of where paschal's was, on hunter street west of downtown (now fittingly Martin Luther King Jr. Dr.) the black-owned restaurant and famed meeting place of countless civil rights heroes.

the neighbourhood on the south end of vine city is now called historic westside village and is where the wal-mart opened up two weeks ago. vine city has some impressive homes but has failed to revitalize until a few years ago. it's also the site of the herndon home (NOT "herndon homes" the project), which is a late 19th century mansion, the type which you'd think was only in druid hills:

i am glad vine city is making a rebound, and i hope that once again it will be a place for people of all races and income levels.

Uh, did you hear that some where or just make it up?

It is a museum and National Historic Landmark. No one lives there.

Yes, the Herndon Home has daily tours and it's a fascinating place to visit. You get to learn a lot not only about Alonzo Herndon himself (who had an amazing/tragic life) but also get a peek in to often unknown early 20th century upper class Black life.

you're talking about the herndon home. i'm talking about the house on sunset avenue, where coretta scott king lived until she died, and is currently owned by Martin Luther King III:

Google Maps

looking back at Atlwarrior's post, it seems blatantly obvious to me now that they were talking about the herndon home.

Coretta Scott King had not lived in that home in years. Oprah Winfrey purchased a condo in the Park Plaza tower in Buckhead for her...same building where Elton John and Janet Jackson have a place.
