If the bridge came down that fast, it must have been in bad shape.

I was pretty surprised to see the photo of it aready ripped up. I thought there would have been a few days of prep work beforehand. I'm not sure if it's completely demolished yet, but as of a few hours ago a large chunk of it was gone.

I'll make sure to check it out from the train this evening.

Lots of pics and a video of the demo on http://www.facebook.com/atlantabeltline?ref=ts&fref=ts

BTW, I'd suggest going to the meeting Monday if you can make it. I'm out of town, so I went to the SW meeting last week. Nothing ground breaking, but there are some notable events that have happened concerning the SE portion - namely the design contract was signed which will make the SE portion eligible for federal funds in ~3 years. Two of the BL reps at the SW meeting live along the SE line and were very knowledgeable.

It looked to me like the whole thing was gone when I drove by this morning. Edgewood has two bridges, one right after the other. The bridge by the new storage facility is in good shape and is not going to be replaced. Only the bridge over the railroad tracks is being removed/replaced.

I would have liked for the to remove both and replace them with some sort of landmark bridge.

When I rode by yesterday evening on the Green Line the western 1/3 of the bridge over the BeltLine was left. There was little debris left from the other 2/3. Seems they are moving quickly.

I'm betting that it was. There are a few establishments I like to frequent in that area. Every time I would walk across it, the whole thing would shake with just a single car passing by.

Good riddance to bad rubbish. That was one of the ugliest and unnecessarily behemoth things in the city.

I read somewhere that it was the bridge that is most likely to collapse in Atlanta. Good riddance is right.
