Of course it is. Well, maybe not storiing and preserving part, but removing them...that's common sense. They have to remove it to make way for what they're planning to build. If they're storing it, I would hope that means they're going to be able to reuse it (or maybe use it in some other way). Either way, it's gotta go at some point, so the fact they're removing it now means they are, in no uncertain terms, doing Beltline related work.

I do think it's exciting that they're doing something down there. It's especially cool that they're saving the old rails. Maybe they'll let someone use some of it for a sculpture now that Art on the Beltline is coming back.

A front end loader is there and it is digging. Those are facts. You can interpret them as you wish. I think it's safe to make the statement that whatever the reason for the digging, it is something that needs to be done before the Beltline is developed in that area.

That's what I'm hoping they'll do if the rails can't be reused for the transit. It'd be great to make something out of them that connects the Beltline with our rail history. There's certainly enough old rail laying around to make some pretty ambitious sculptures.

Saw them fixing a pot hole on MLK near the Georgia Dome last week. Guess work has begun on the new Falcon's Stadium . . . they would have had to fix it then anyways.

No transit project is going to touch used/worn rail. It can be purposed in furniture and art, but it's life carrying loads has long since passed.

I hope that on some part of the beltline they will inset the old rails into the walking path like they do on the highline in NYC...very nice touch to remind people where it came from...
