Where are they going to play if they do the Southern site? Bobby Dodd Stadium?

The plan is to build it where the dome parking is now just south of the dome, then demolish the dome.

I gotta be honest here folks. I was and still am opposed to tax money for stadiums. But this deal, if the costs are honestly represented, seems very reasonable and a best case scenario for a new stadium. The taxes being used are paid by tourists and those taxes are being used to continue to attract more tourists to town. My biggest objection before, the hidden infrastructure costs, seem like they are being handled by the Falcons.

Watching some interviews on the news, the Mayor and Blank both said that they want to develop the south site. Only thing stopping that would be two historical churches on that land.

If the only money the city has to put into this will be the $200 M from the hotel tax, then I approve of this move. That is a logical use of those taxes. And we get a shiny new building that may tie in well with the MMPT, a continued commitment to downtown so it stays relevant, to and hopefully, fingers ultra-crossed, some effective investment in the Vine City area.

Mayor Kasim Reed Wants Facelfit For M.L. King Drive This. I take it as another hint they are going with the south site. The timing is no coincidence.

So Atlanta is paying $200 million to demolish a perfectly good stadium and build a new one 800 feet south? Wow, just...wow.
