I'm possibly moving to Atlanta to pursue a music career in rock and roll. What does the rock and roll scene look like for artist. Is it dead? I don't think it hurts to also tell you that I am a African-American woman. Also if at all possible list other cities with better opportunities

Lol "rock in roll".

What genre are you talking about specifically?

If you can finish this lyric you know some rock and roll and may succeed. "Left my home in Norfolk Virginia California on my mind"

Unless you have some constructive advice DON'T comment. When I say rock and roll I mean acts like Queen all the way to Lenny Kravitz and Coldplay. Simply Rock or Rock Alternative

It was constructive. That song was Promised Land by Chuck Berry by the way. That is real rock and roll. I asked that to see how much rock and roll means to you. If you don't know Chuck Berry you don't know rock and roll. It is very hard to have a successful career playing music. You have to have something better than Lenny Kravitz and Coldplay.

I think the music scene here is decent. There are lots of good venues with good vibes if playing live is your thing.

I don't know how many artists go on to get discovered and have successful careers, but I think it's not a bad town to gig around and get your chops.

The Atlanta rock and roll scene is very healthy. The vast majority of the people in rock bands here (or anywhere, really) are white, so as an African-American female, you will stand out and probably get a lot of attention.

As far as launching a career, that depends on how good you are and whether or not the style of music you perform will appeal to a large number of people.

Some rock venues in Atlanta to familiarize yourself with:

The EARL
529
Drunken Unicorn
The Basement
Star Bar
