Gotta love it.

Under legislation an Atlanta City Council committee is expected to consider today, prostitutes who are convicted of soliciting sex in certain parts of town could face stiff jail time, fines, and being prohibited from visiting certain parts of Atlanta - or perhaps even being banished from the city limits. The same would apply to the men and women who might purchase their services.

Drastic measures, but I can't blame them. Never heard of outright banishment in the 20th or 21st century though, I have to wonder if this is legal.

This is just proof that black political leadership is every bit as puritanical and conservative as white political leadership are in the south.

I agree about the legality, this definitely sounds unconstitutional and silly.

banishment is silly of course, but we do need to combat prostitution. it has turned many neighbourhoods into hellholes. it's really easy for a lot of you guys to talk about how religious blacks are restricting rights and so on when you don't live in a place where it happens all the time.

Best way to combat it is to legalize it. Then it can be regulated and designated to certain areas.

yeah— designated to areas where the residents are poor and don't have any voice in local government. just like those areas aren't protected or given the same services that other parts of the city do.

Well, that's a different issue. Right now locking girls up isn't solving anything and only makes the practice more dangerous for everyone involved.
