Hey guys, I will be driving from Long Island, NY to Gwinnett (Lawrenceville) Ga. I will be leaving Friday Feb 22 at possibly 3:00 AM. Should I take I-95?

95 to 85 is the shortest. You will be hitting Baltimore and DC during rush hour though. It will be a cluster

That's what I'm afraid of. Reading up on google suggests me to take 81 or 87.

I took 81 from Atlanta to Philadelphia and back last year. No traffic problems at all. It's actually a pretty nice drive.

I've had to make this drive a few times. I would never go 95, if not for the traffic, the tolls alone set you back a tank of gas. I agree with bdawk. Best way is to head west in PA, south on 81 to Charlotte, then 85 to Atlanta. No tolls, little to no traffic. I think the mileage works out shorter than 95 too.

I just drove from NJ to Atlanta a few weeks ago. I took 81. It's a beautiful drive, and if you have time, there are a few great places to stop along the way, and some fun wineries. We stayed one night in Virginia and another in Asheville--no regrets.

We've made the drive between Atlanta and NJ many times. Another vote for 81, as long as the forecast is clear. I wouldn't want to deal with that route if snow is in the forecast.
