Uh, no. Moved from the DC region not long ago and still own a home there. Not even Balimoreans consider themselves northern, little less an area with the Jefferson Davis Highway and Stonewall Jackson High School.

Um, yeah. I have friends that still live in the DC region. Even Arlingtonians consider themselves Northern.

And if your ignorance from this statement hasn't shine through enough!

Whole foods is Southern. It was founded in and headquartered in Austin, TX. Albeit, Texas brings on a whole culture within itself, but it is the South.

Trader Joes isn't a Southern Staple, but it isn't Northern either. It is a West Coast Establishment.

Q: Will Atlanta Ever Be Northern?
A: It already is, and has been for a long time.

We burned it to the ground, and then took it over 125 years later.

I just hope the people from up north do not bring their politics with them. I love when I hear people who moved here to escape the oppressive taxation yet vote for all the Democrats. If it is so great why did it not work up there?

I grew up in NYC, it was great but I prefer it down here. And no I did not move here because it is "cheap." I went to Emory and stayed because I started a business here. The taxes and regulation are much better than up north. My mom and her husband were southern so the culture was not that different. Look at what happened when Michigan became a union run state. The children of the wealthy left after being educated and took their brains and inheritance to other states. Michigan has improved greatly over the past few years with the new Governor Snyder who has restructured the corporate tax system, lowered the income tax, and decreased paperwork. (my company has a location in Detroit, that is why I am familiar with what happened in Michigan)

It is not just the weather that has the elderly fleeing NYC for Florida.

Look at what is happening in the white progressive mecca of Minneapolis, MN. Google news Minnesota taxes.

All the Brooklyn people on here, please you are not real NY'ers.

I honestly don't think anybody here should need to defend how "southern" Atlanta is to someone who doesn't live here and is obviously not familiar with southern culture. No matter how many transplants are in this city, at its root, Atlanta is southern. While it may turn into a "hybridized" version of southern culture, this city will always retain its heritage.

Exactly this.
