I have friends and family making major money in Atlanta also working for fortune 500 companies, but I wouldn't say having a degree or having a degree in any particular area except for being an M.D. means you will find a job.

I know three people with computer science degrees in Atlanta, one is unemployed, one was unemployed for almost a year and found a decent job, and the other one is underemployed making about $25k a year. Meanwhile people were telling us all in college that computer science was the way to go.
Computer science jobs are actually really easy to find. Maybe not here in Atlanta, but many other cities. There's still a major demand for software engineers.

I am in my early 20's, have a bachelors degree in psychology and about 6 years of work history. I'm pursuing a masters in public administration. Do I stand a chance in Atlanta? I come from a city that is not doing well in the job market so I don't really want to move to another city where I'll have to struggle for a while (if I can avoid it).

The job market as a whole has nothing to do with you. What matters are the opportunities that match your specific skill set. During the worst part of the downturn, I was getting recruited at least 2-3 times a month.

Had you told me we were in a economic downturn, I would have laughed at you and thought you were joking.

If Atlanta is where you envision yourself, let the networking began.
