Hi,
My husband and I have been considering moving back to Atlanta since the birth of our daughter. Our major problem is that we currently live in Los Angeles and work in the film industry, so obviously we'd have to switch careers. My question is, and it may sound stupid-what are the best paying industries/career areas in Atlanta? What are the most popular? What can you do to make, say, $35K a year or more there? I know it has been a big banking city. Both my husband and I have degrees and partial degrees in various things under our belt and we've changed careers majorly in the past multiple times, so tend to be pretty savvy about it. I just don't know where to begin. Thanks, Heather |

Depending on what you do in the film industry, you may be able to use your credentials to get work here. Before you give up what you've spent the last number of years doing, might as well see if there's a niche for it here.

There is a strong television and corporate video industry in Atlanta. Although the work is harder to come by than in L.A., and is often based on 'who you know', that doesn't mean that there isn't work. For someone who is qualified and has years of experience, it isn't impossible to find work in the production industry. You just might have to 'pay your dues' again, which is the hard reality of film and video work, but that's how you get to know people and there's a lot of creative and talented people in Atlanta.

There are lots of corporate HQs here that have in house video production. Home Depot has a big in house production in their HQs.

Maybe the folks at Atlantafilms can steer you to the movie producers here: AtlantaFilms.com | Atlanta Films - News, Events, Calendar, and Chat Forum for Filmmakers, Screenwriters, and Actors
There are also several listings in that category here: Atlanta Motion Picture Producers & Studios in Atlanta GA Yellow Pages by SuperPages |

Another option if it interests either of you might be education. There are several colleges and universities in the metro-Atlanta area as well as many deep-pocketed secondary private schools. Film making, "Final Cut", digital photography are increasingly popular offerings at the private schools and it is difficult to find qualifed teachers for some of these specialty programs.
