I would suspect that they are going to announce the "preferred" south site (my preference too) since they are announcing it "before the October deadline". Otherwise why would they give up on it. They already have an offer for one church and are getting closer on the second. But we will find out soon apparently.

Based on the language in that article (and the tone of Rich McKay and Arthur Blank at the meeting), I think they'll announce the exact opposite. The theme of the entire meeting was that it was most important for the stadium to be built on schedule and downtown. I think Blank expects an answer within two weeks because the bankruptcy court gave Morris Brown a 2 week extension to submit their Chapter 11 plan, and that's Mayor Reed's last hope for the south site.

Why, then, do we keep paying?


THE BASIC EVOLUTION BEHIND subsidies for sports stadiums is as follows: owner wants new stadium to make more money and increase the value of the franchise. Owner threatens to move team. Politicians save face by pretending they won’t offer millions of dollars in subsidies. Politicians eventually offer millions of dollars in subsidies and keep the team in the city. If there’s a justification for all this, it comes from the concept of a public good.

The private money "has materialized," Reed said. "I'm not prepared to discuss it yet. But we're much closer on the Mt. Vernon transaction."

"We'll either close (the deal), or we won't, over the next five to seven days," Reed said Monday.
