If you want crime/neighborhood information SPECIFIC to your area, try:
relocationesentials.com- You can get crime stats with a city OR a zip code. I'm thinking of buying a house in Mableton, and I've used it to weed out some bad areas.

Do you mean: Relocation Essentials

I have been looking up areas to relocate to with low crime also. Hubby will be working near GSU and we are coming up from FL. It all seems pretty scary reading through different threads.

We were considering Dallas, GA, but have since found out the commute would be horrible. We have 2 children to consider schools for (1 Middle, 1 High school). Any suggestions would greatly be appreciated. There is no way we will move if we can't find affordable housing and good schools with low crime rates.

Thanks in advance for any help you can offer!

GSU is downtown. You can live anywhere. If you want good schools, try Cobb. Maybe Smyrna.

My Mableton neighborhood was west of Dodgen Road and south of Bankhead hwy and east of Gordon Rd (now Mableton Parkway?). We lived there 1958-1968. Clay was my school. It was all good! Times change, I have not seen it since 1973. I am a home owner. My only advice is, drive around the area at night. Does it look ok? Are the homes and yards maintained? Is there tagging and graffiti? Are there junk cars on the yard? Hey, there were junk cars on the yards on Austin Drive, where we lived and the neighborhood was good. You had neighbors, and people knew each other. Drive the area in the day. Are kids playing in the yards outside? Any baseball games or kick the can games in progress? It takes time to find a home you feel comfortable with, it took us 4 months looking at homes till we found the one we wanted and we have been in it going on 15 yrs now. Get a realtor you trust and look till you find the one you want/can afford.

Smyrna and parts of Mableton share a pretty good school -- Nickajack.
