Buckhead has more of a Westlake type feel (maybe Westlake x 100) but you'd still have to commute a little to get to some of the better places. The commute to Vinings wouldn't be too bad though if you're in central Buckhead.
His commute is to Smyrna though which is even further from those places than Vinings.

I'm hoping for a bar scene similar to Lakewood and I'd like to live somewhere similar to Westlake.
I grew up on the Eastside, graduated from OU last year, and moved to Atlanta back in July. Wasn't a huge fan of Vinings, it seems like it goes from being really nice to really crappy at the drop of a hat. If you want something like Westlake you should check out Sandy Springs or Roswell. Kennesaw isn't terrible and KSU is there, so it's got that going for it.

When you get a chance to explore, check out Virginia Highland, it's like a nicer Lakewood or Downtown Willoughby. Good luck, man!

Just curious, where in Vingins is crappy? I've been in Vinigns for about 12 years and have yet to encounter anything I would consider crappy...

From his original post, VAHI sounds like a good fit.
