Looking at relocating to Atlanta area and working in Norcross.
My husband is considering accepting a job in Norcross. I have heard that parts of Norcross have a higher crime rate. We are looking at living outside of Norcross and commuting in.
What are the average commute times during rush hour from the following areas to Norcross and back?
Alpharetta
Duluth
Suwanee
Is there any other areas with low crime and houses under 400k that would be a good commute?
Thanks!

Is he working in the Peachtree Corners area of Norcross? There are a ton of office parks there, and it is a pretty upscale and safe area. You could find older homes there under 400k.
My wife did Alpharetta to Peachtree Corners for a little while- it took her 30 min using back roads.

Peachtree cornor is good area (Checkfree has an office there), so is technology park in Norcross. The area not so good is close to I-85 (Gwinnett village area).
For shorter commute, check Peachtree corner area (specially Simpson elementary), Johns Creek (just north of Peachtree Corner) on peachtree Parkway or city of Berkeley Lake. All are very upscale area. For example, average income at city of Berkeley Lake is over $100,000.

Look west of Peachtree Industrial (minus the Historic Norcross) if you are interested in that area. Think of the area between Buford Hwy and Peachtree Industrial as a buffer (again, minus the Historic Norcross) from the unincorporated Norcross, which carries a different perceived reputation.

Commute from Atlanta to Suwanee and High Tech
Does anyone know how long the commute from down town Atlanta to Suwanee would be?
Also where the high tech areas are located? Usually they are concentrated in specific areas; unless Atlanta is like NJ/NY where there is just so much high tech that it's everywhere; however, even here there are concentrated areas..
My husband is .net management in NY city.
Thanks,

I wouldn't do it
Personally this would be torture in terms of a commute. Maybe someone knows a way that would take less than 1.5 hours during rush hour? Atlanta is a great place to live BUT get the job then find the residence if at all possible. Your life will be greatly improved.

I'll also chime in and give props to the Peachtree Corners area.
With your budget, you may actually want to check out Downtown Norcross. It's a charming, walkable area with a small town vibe. Several nice restaurants and pubs, mixed in with other "cute" retail.
There is a beautiful New Urbanism neighborhood called Seven that is within walking distance to the Main Street: Seven Norcross - Norcross GA New Homes - Hedgewood, Atlanta New Homes Builder
