Coca-Cola eyes big move downtown - Atlanta Business Chronicle

Quote:
The beverage giant has entered final negotiations for new office space with the ownership of the 60-story SunTrust Plaza, one of Atlanta’s iconic skyscrapers.

Coca-Cola (NYSE: KO) would move about 1,000 jobs, many of them IT workers from suburban Atlanta, to SunTrust Plaza and its Garden Offices. Coke would make up to a 10-year commitment and lease at least 250,000 square feet.

Huge news for downtown. I like it relocating here more than PCM. Downtown is the on rise.

That's great news to hear for downtown! Let's hope that the deal moves from the final stages of negotiation on to become a reality.

MARTA is Smarta!

Edit: And has good coverage downtown, unlike the suburbs

My guess is that the vast majority of the incoming employees will not have convenient MARTA rail access so will drive - like most of us around here.

Which doesn't really help those in the suburbs who aren't close to MARTA.

This would be so cool for the downtown area.

I used to work in SunTrust Plaza and it is really a convenient location. Some days I would walk over to Centennial Park or run errands during my lunch hour. On my way back I would pick up lunch from the SunTrust Plaza food court or at the food court in Peachtree Center.

This location would also be very convenient for employees who want to take the train.

Actually working in true downtown is one of the few scenarios in which taking the train makes sense. I hope some do, and some will live in intown/downtown neighborhoods. I think this Coke move would be good news, all things considered. Plenty of other companies are moving to Lenox or outside the city limits, and we need those buildings downtown to be occupied. Bring it on!
