Default Outlet Centres Georgia

Hi,

I am visiting Atlanta from Europe for a few days and would like to take advantage of the cheaper dollar to do some shopping. Can someone please advise if there are good outlet centres (for clothes) within or near Atlanta. Public transport is preferable so if people could advise in this respect that would be great. Obviously in order to have a drink post all this shopping you may be able to advise on good bars in the city for young people. Thanks, Kieran

There are several outlet centers in Georgia, but all of them are an hour or more from Atlanta proper with no viable public transportation. There are centers in Calhoun (on Interstate 75 northwest of Atlanta), Dawsonville (Georgia Hwy 400 north/northeast of Atlanta), and Commerce/Banks Crossing (Interstate 85 northeast of Atlanta). There's also a Tanger Outlet Center in Locust Grove, south of Atlanta on Interstate 75.

The only outlet mall (sort of) in the metro area proper is Discover Mills on Sugarloaf Parkway in Gwinnett County. You can get there via a combination of MARTA and Gwinnett County Transit, though the operating hours for GCT are somewhat limited (it's mainly targeted to commuters heading into the city from Gwinnett, not tourists heading out to Gwinnett from the city).

Here's a Google Map showing these locations: Atlanta area outlet centers

Since you're "taking advantage" of the all mighty weak dollar- just go to Phipps and spend to your heart's content. We Americans would appreciate it.
Happy shopping!

One of the more popular is the North Georgia Premium outlet mall that is North of Georgia 400, approximately 45 or so miles from downtown Atlanta. Decent deals, especially the weekend after our Thanksgiving holiday (though it's VERY crowded during that time).

There actually is a "shopping shuttle" that goes from downtown Atlanta to this mall. It's privately run and not part of the city's transit system. It only runs up there once in the morning and back once in the afternoon, so you have to be sure not to miss it.
