Between Dallas, Houston, and Atlanta...

Atlanta is the whitest of the three.

So you endorse colonialism?

That actually surprised me. I think of Dallas as having the reputation of being the whitest of the three. By now, however, there's little doubt that all three are majority-minority.

The consistency with which all three are having the share of white population decline by ten percentage points per decade is striking.

Whites are probably the majority of US immigrants. However if you meant non-Hispanic whites, then you have a point. But I think that in one or two generations speaking spanish will no longer be considered a separate race. It'll happen relatively quickly.

Keep in mind this is for the metro region. Atlanta itself is becoming whiter faster than any other city in the country.

In my mind the most striking thing about Atlanta's demographics is the amazing growth of the Hispanic, Asian and other populations. 30 years ago all three groups combined made up less than 2% our population. Today nearly 1 in 5 metro residents falls in one of those categories.

yes, but atlanta is also the blackest of the three and has the highest percentage of other races (not hispanic, black, white, or asian).

yes, because a belief in peaceful coexistence between many different races and religion goes hand-in-hand with a belief that we should invade other countries. jackass.

A lot of that is just timing. Atlanta's growth spurt during the 1970's, 1980's and 1990's came on the heels of the United States liberalizing its immigration laws, and the first big waves of Asian and Latin American immigrants arriving soon thereafter. You'll notice that every major metropolitan area that has grown rapidly during the last three decades of the 20th Century has a diverse population. It's the same way that every major metropolitan area that grew rapidly during the first three decades of the 20th Century has a lot of ethnic European influence. Basically, rapidly-growing metropolitan areas are the ones that are bound to look the most like the United States as a whole during the period of time in which they grew the fastest.

It just so happens that the metropolitan areas that grew steadily during both periods of time, like New York, Chicago, Boston, and to a lesser extent Philadelphia, have the widest variety of ethnic European, Asian and Latin American influence. The metropolitan areas that were comparatively inconsequential until the 1970's, like Atlanta, Dallas and Houston, have plenty of Asian and Latin American influence, but little or no ethnic European influence. Conversely, the "Rust Belt" metropolitan areas that grew rapidly early in the 20th Century but stalled late in the 20th Century, like Pittsburgh, Cleveland, Cincinnati and Buffalo, have an abundance of ethnic European influence, but comparatively little Asian or Latin American influence.

...

Acknowledging that it is the whitest of the three does not negate the fact that Atlanta is the blackest of the three.

This is not an "either-or" situation.

Hey...colonialism fitted your criteria. And if the people don't resist the newcomers, coexistence can be quite peaceful. Besides, Atlanta is the result of colonialism, partly populated by a people forcefully removed from Africa, and now is being populated increasingly by illegal immigration. Ah...Diversity!
