Hello- We currently live in Northern Virginia, in a suburb of DC. We are considering moving to the Atlanta area. We are a family of 6.. 9 year old twins, 7 year old, and 3 year old. We will be working from home so commute time is not an issue..

See answers to the sticky information below:

1. Budget- up to $375,000
2. House/Condo/Townhome?- single family home

3. Employment Status(commute/work from home)-work from home- don't need/desireto be super close to downtown

4. Children(public school vs. private)- public

5. Suburban or Urban lifestyle preference or a mix of the two- mix.. are there any neighborhoods/developments with the "town center" concept... home within walking distance to shopping, restaurants, etc??

6. Easy access to public transit, important or not?- not important

7. Preferable demographics of desired neighborhood.- not important but don't want to be in snobville

Obviously want good schools with low student/teacher ratio. overcrowding is a big issue where we live now and we want to avoid this.

Thanks for your input!! We know nothing about the area!

Have you looked at Vickery in Cumming GA? You might be able to find a house there in your budget and it is a newer development that has the "town center" concept. Or you could try some honest-to-goodness small towns like Cartersville, Newnan, Jasper, Watkinsville etc. since you don't have to be near a work location. Home prices tend to be higher in the better school districts, obviously. . .

Just out of curiosity, if you both work remotely and can essentially live anywhere . . . what is drawing you to Atlanta?

With reference to #5, here are the metro neighborhoods I'm aware of that have a central square or a developed 'town center'.
Decatur
Lawrenceville
Suwanee
Roswell
Marietta
Woodstock
Norcross
Newnan
Fayetteville
Conyers
Covington

Red92S- Cost of housing is much better in Atlanta metro area than here in DC. We live in an exurb... about 35 miles out of DC and cost of a 4000square foot(on 3 levels) runs from 550-1,000. Also, have family further south that we would like to live closer to.

Fair enough. Not trying to steer you elsewhere, just trying to understand what's driving you south.

My bad, you did say you were looking for Atlanta area. When you said you wanted a town center and didn't need to be near work, I started thinking small town GA. For your price point, you might want to tell us if you are looking for intown gentrifying neighborhood with older homes or a suburban neighborhood with newer houses. . .
