Hopefully Delta gets it. You mention Charlotte in the heading (which I didn't see in the aticle) but it reminded me of this matrix the WSJ came out with last week. I wouldn't have guessed Charlotte was in the top 5 busiest airports in the country. AIRCUTS - WSJ.com

Most surprising was how far Cincinatti/Kentucky has fallen. In 2007 - they had 150K flights/day - that's dropped all the way to 50K/flights now. Insane!

Though ATL still maintains the lead, in fact widening its lead over O'hare as the #2 busiest.

As our President said, aren't we better off to spread the wealth around a little?

It sounds like we're coming off as the Joe the Plumber of airports.

Yeah, don't see anything about Charlotte in the article.

Looks like the Atlanta airport is competing against Chicago and LA for direct flights to Brazil. And the Charlotte airport isn't considered a major international hub airport anyway. Despite impression and hype, I don't see Charlotte threatening Atlanta anytime soon, if ever.

The situation, as I understand it, is that Delta traded a bunch of stuff to US Airways for additional landing slots at LaGuardia. On thing Delta traded was the right to operate one frequency to Sao Paulo.

Now, after the trade, Delta is asking the DOT for a brand new slot to be created (actually three brand new slots).

Definitely it would be good for us if the slots were awarded. But if they weren't, and Detroit were no longer allowed a slot, I can't see it being bad for us. It could mean Delta will start to use larger aircraft on ATL-GRU. Currently it uses a 767-400, which holds 240 or so people. It could use an A330-300 or 747 instead. But definitely an additional frequency is better than a larger aircraft.

Charlotte already operates a flight to Brazil, but Delta was saying in its DOT application that it would be unfair for Charlotte and Miami to have have 5 daily flights from the South, while Delta only have one. If you click on the proposal on the link it goes into great detail to the tune of 65 pages.

Clt is the busiest hub airport in US Airways system. Once the merger with US Airways and American occurs, clt will be 2nd busiest hub in the world's largest airline. The CLT airport is in the early stages of a major expansion. Clt has over 700 daily flights. I understand that once the merger occurs many more international flights will be coming. Clt is the 6th busiest airport in world by takeoffs and departures. Go to Charlotte Douglas International Airport wikipedia.
