I don't know either. I don't see how people think this is a bad thing. It might not be a game changer but it's not like it could have any negative impact. People will ride it, the city will get tax dollars and one more parking lot is getting put to a better use.
Sure, it could be taller. But I've seen pictures taken from better angles that really show off the height. I think people will be pleasantly surprised to see it completed.

If this was a taxpayer funded project, I might agree that it's a bad idea, but since it's a private business I don't get the derision. It makes no sense to me, especially since I've heard exactly zero alternate ideas except for "do nothing", a mindset that happens to be the root cause of just about every major problem in Atlanta. Great plan!
I work in a building that has a view of the wheel. I don't think this thing is going to be a sensation or aything, but it certainly is the talk o fthe office.
I just walked over there 20 minutes ago. It was pretty neat to see all the cars sitting on pallets waiting to be installed.
JPD - Often times "nothing" is indeed better than "something". Sometimes waiting patiently for something right is the way to go as opposed to rushing into something that is not ideal.
It's been an empty parking lot since when, the Olympics? I wouldn't consider that "rushing".
I can't complain about this being tacky when we have the College Football HOF opening down the road. Have you seen that thing?
The CBS Webcam gives an idea of the size of the wheel against the backdrop of the towers that are close to it....personally I see it as a great addition to the Downtown tourist attractions.
The wheel is on the other side of Downtown at the park. But are the towers... towering really a bad thing?
Since it's taller then the midrises there's nothing immediately blocking it. Technically you can look down and see midtown, turn around and see Downtown towering behind. Or look across the park and see the Westside.
Some of yall are way too pessimistic. No... this not Atlanta's London Eye but if you think about the area. For tourist it will add something to do around The park. Making the area itself more symbolic. Even if it was smaller, it's a good thing add to the neighborhood.
I still don't see what's to be negative about this. Again I not viewing this as some super symbol like the London Eye, I'm viewing it as a Ferris wheel being added next to a Park. In fact don't view it as a suppose symbol for Atlanta, view it as another Landmark for the Luckie Marietta area.
Georgia aquarium
CNN Center
World of Coca-Cola

College Football Hall of Fame

All are surrounding the Park.
What's going to happen after people visit those places people are going to be thinking why not ride The Ferris wheel while where we here. It only adds to the experience of the neighborhood.
