Already seeing this same thing from PEDs over the dockless scooters.

Dockless bikes have already gone through the motions in China, where it was initially a huge hit. Lots of companies secured a ton of funding to distribute bikes all across cities in China. Nowadays, a lot of those companies have gone out of business and their bikes are now littered across the cities.

The issue with dockless biking is in order to gain any sort of traction, you need make them very convenient. In order to do that, you need a LOT of bikes. Customers should be able to walk less than a block to find a bike, go to their destination, dock it, finish what they're doing, and reliably have another bike available to them within a very short distance. Then you end up with bikes littered everywhere in the city, taking up way to much space on sidewalks, storefronts, etc.

I know Atlanta is making strides in this department, but these roads are not bike friendly at all. With how aggressively of the drivers here drive, I would never consider sharing a road with a car. Dedicated bike lanes would help, but it'll still take a long time before the city is full connected that way.

I do like the idea of docked bikes along the beltline though.

Dockless scooters are being placed by the company in spots where they shouldn't be. There are three of them on Walton and Forsyth blocking a door to a business and right in the middle of the sidewalk at an intersection, forcing single file only to pass. All so a bunch of lazy pricks can get even less healthy.

Oh, that’s not good at all. That means they assume dockless will win, which, IMO is bad for the city.

Not sure how I feel about that. Scooters are one thing, but bikes? With designated docks, they are relatively easy to find, now there might be 10 "nearby" scattered all over the place.

That is what the app is for. Now you don't have to walk as far. But I am sure they will keep the docks stocked with them as well if you want a regular place to grab & go.

ofo donated their bikes to Bearing Bike Shop and ABC. Probably a cost saving to just donate them instead of shipping them, but it's good to see them getting reused.
Quote:
On Thursday, Central Atlanta Progress announced ofo had donated all 188 of its two-wheeled assets to the intown business association and the Atlanta Bicycle Coalition, which have since paid it forward.

Adair Park’s Bearings Bike Shop, situated on the Beltline’s Westside Trail, was gifted 40 bikes, which it will use in its youth development programs teaching kids and teens about bicycle upkeep and repair.
Quote:
Ofo’s donation also put 100 of its rides in the hands of the Atlanta Bicycle Coalition’s Shifting Gears program, which aims to help Atlanta Public Schools students, teachers, and parents with the ins and outs of bike safety.

And, as if all that wasn’t heartwarming enough, 20 bikes went to First Step Staffing, a nonprofit organization focused on helping people find jobs after homelessness. The group’s clients will be able to borrow the bikes to get to job opportunities.
