Those folks up in Gwinnett don't fool around. While other jurisdictions squabble and conduct endless studies, Gwinnett just opened an entire microtransit system for only $1.3 million.

The pilot program aims to serve approximately 36,000 residents of Norcross, focusing on areas identified with socioeconomic disparities. Notably, over half of the household incomes in the target area are below 60% of the area's median income. This initiative will operate 14 hours a day, from Monday to Saturday, excluding holidays, over a one-year period starting from August 1, 2024, through July 31, 2025.

It's good they are trying things but I wouldn't compare renting 4 vans for a one year pilot to building actual transit. Also governments love microtransit because it allows them to look like they're doing something without actually having to make hard decisions. The success rate of microtransit service is a mixed bag.

Well, maybe I misread. It just sounds like the sort of thing Gwinnett is known for pulling off.

I think Gwinnett DOT does a good job in general, but I wouldn't say they're known for providing good transit service.

All I'm seeing here is that Gwinnett will try literally anything except expanding actual transit.
