That's a big deal. Sorry if noting the reality that we are paying for this irritates blind cheer leading... and no it's not just GA that engages in it.
Are we, though? If Georgia were giving money to these companies, then I would agree that we are paying for it. But from what I know, the deal is that they get a 20% credit on income taxes based on their expenses over $500k. So, they have to spend money to get a "discount" on whatever else they pay. They don't just get handed cash which they can then run off with. Right?

Film and television production pumped $3.5 BILLION (that's BILLON with a B!) into Georgia's economy in 2012. We're only halfway through 2013 and production is already ahead of last year. DO THE MATH! It may still be only a fraction of what the entertainment biz pumps into California's economy, but it's still $3.5 billion that would NOT have been spent in this state without the incentives.

WHAT IS SO HARD TO UNDERSTAND ABOUT THIS?

What it comes down to is Tea Party nuts (and the like) thinking that ZERO state dollars should ever be spent on industrial development or job creation. But that's NOT the way the system works. If we followed that premise to the T, Georgia would get NOTHING ... and many companies could never afford to expand. You have to SPEND money to MAKE money, plain and simple.

YOU: ... 100 years ago, not only was there a major Southeast film making city, that city almost was Hollywood since it was in the Eastern US and had great train access to NYC (money etc).

Pretty clear you're trying to draw correlations between JAX then and Atlanta now.
No, it's not a correlation. Just because you view it that way because you overly sensitive doesn't make it so.
You keep trying to argue.

Once, again, not insulting you. You seem to take any comment that isn't come Chamber of Commerce love letter very personally.

I've been known to have that effect on people.

It'll be interesting to see how much production is shifted to Atlanta. But it is somewhat of a zero sum game. Atlanta's boom is LA's pain

TV pilot production rebounds, but L.A. still losing business - Los Angeles Times

Although surprisingly, New York is a major player again, along with Vancouver, and Toronto.

It's not so much Georgia's spending...it's the TAX BREAKS that is attracting Hollywood. Something that should warm the hearts of those Tea Party nutcases.

I know studies have shown that the ROI when it comes to tax subsidies for the film industry are typically not worth the cost, but in GA's case, with the infrastructure that's coming to the state, I think it will be worth it in the long run.

Except that those film people are mostly liberals! We don't want tax breaks going to liberals! Just good conservative folk like oil producers!

Keep dreaming. Not trying to troll here. That comment is just a little too far fetched.
