You're out of luck with public transportation of any kind from Douglasville to Lawrenceville, let alone Atlanta to Lawrenceville.
Carpools will probably not work well either, but you'll need to investigate that on your own.

You can ride GRTA from Douglasville but not to Lawrenceville. The closest it goes is Snellville or Discover Mills.

The problem with XpressGA is that they are mostly unidirectional by time of day - i.e., the morning routes go from the suburbs to downtown Atlanta ONLY, and then the afternoon commutes go the other way. There are a couple of exceptions, but that is the general rule, so going from downtown to Snellville in the morning, for example, is not feasible.

Just FYI first of all, locals simply refer to it as "MARTA" not "the MARTA".
Second, no, you need a car, plain and simple. MARTA does not even go into that county, and it doesn't go into Gwinnett County either, though they do have their own tiny bus system. Unless you find a reliable coworker at the Lawrenceville place you also lives in Douglasville (perhaps not too likely), then you'll need to drive, and if it's during rush hours, expect AT LEAST a 1.5 hour commute each way (and that's in good traffic). For the record, even if MARTA did run from one place to the other, it would take probably 4 hours each way when you talk about bus transfers, etc. We're about 30 years away or more before the rail hits those areas as well (if it ever does).
Atlanta is the queen of traffic and congestion. The biggest commandment you'll hear to obey over and over again here is, "live close to where you work", and a Douglasville-to-Lawrenceville commute is the ultimate sin. Either you're going to have to deal with spending a minimum of 3+ hours on the road every day, or you need to move to Gwinnet County (or, find a job that's much closer to Douglasville). Sorry.
