Hello:
I just recently moved back to this area from NC after being away for 14 years. I have no idea if there is even a lesbian community out this far. I was hoping to find info for the Athens area and so far no luck. I am also looking for a rental home in those same counties and could use some assistance. Just joined today, looks like an interesting forum. Take care, Nancy |

Ok, most likely if you tell anyone in Walton or Barrow County you're lesbian, they're going to reply with, "Oh, isn't that wonderful? My husband and I went to the Middle East on vacation when we first got married!".
I think based on what folks have been saying in here for a long time, the only known "lesbian communities" will be in the city/suburb of Decatur (Dekalb County), and the Midtown area of Atlanta. I'm sure others will indicate if there are more in the outer burbs, but I doubt it. Most likely you'll just find single "unmarried women" (read between the neighbor's lines) in homes, random women discreetly sharing homes in neighborhoods of families, etc. |

Sounds more like a personals ad than a serious question. If you are going to look in rural areas for whatever it is that you are into, you are going to have a harder time finding it. This is especially true of anything classified as trendy, new or just socially unacceptable (from a conservative view). The only exception would be the actual rural activities which could also be viewed as socially unacceptable but later may also be trendy and new. =)

Actually, I am looking for women in the lesbian community living out this way for fellowship and having fun together. The community in Charlotte is very active and I miss it. Thank you AtlantaGreg!

Decatur will be your best bet as that's where a lot of L stuff goes on in terms of community n whatnot.
Athens in Clarke Co is pretty open and I'm sure there is some sort of scene, I'm not sure what it is exactly. |

I think you can finally find a small but vibrant gay community (both men and women) near UGA (Clarke county). When we first moved to Georgia we lived in Athens for 6 months. We briefly considered buying a home there and the one we really liked had been renovated by a couple of really hip women. I just think it's probably more discreet in Clarke County because of the sentiments of a lot of conservatives.
For an opportunity to be completely out all the time, yet not in a strictly gay community, then the city is where you want to be. I live in the city with my husband and son. In my son's school there are many kids with 2 moms or 2 dads. Nobody blinks an eye here. And it's not just couples with kids who live here. Many singles do, too. It's a true mixed community. But, if you want to stay more rural then I think your best bet is Clarke County, specifically Athens. |

There is a very large and well-organized group in that area called NAGS (Northlake-Emory Alliance of Gays, Lesbians and Straights; NAGS - The Northlake Alliance of Gays, Lesbians, and Straights). They would be happy, I'm sure, to add you to their mailing list. |
