Another option, though not as ideal given the distance from Emory/CDC, are some of the west side neighborhoods. Look into Historic West End, Historic College Park, or Historic East Point. They're not the best commute to the CDC car wise, but they have great access to marta and the airport, they're in your price point, and you can get a handful of decent restaurants and bars around there.

Bizchick, I wanted to respond to your post. Are you sure about EAV? I like that area but all I have heard this summer is the random shootings that have increased - a couple of high profile murders. The police have increased their presence, but is it better than Edgewood/Kirkwood? I can't look at the West End - too far for my current commute and perhaps future commute into other CDC campuses.
