I'm aware that a tourist wouldn't be too keen on visiting Kirkwood, which is why I explicitly stated that many of our neighborhood commercial districts "don't exactly tickle touristy fancies." Even so, tourists would be more prone to do so if dense, urban development was consistent from downtown all the way out to Kirkwood and downtown Decatur.
Very much agreed, but some of those lower Manhattan neighborhoods definitely have different vibes from the Midtown/Financial Districts CBDs like SoHo. My most favorite areas of Manhattan are around the Flatiron district and Chinatown. I'm actually not that into the Midtown area of NYC except around Times Square.

The problem is I'm not sure if tourists are even going into Midtown...there's not much for them there at the moment. Atlanta needs to find a way to get Midtown to have a larger tourist base and attractions. It still heavily lacks.

You weren't honestly asking if atlanta has the worst downtown in the south, you'd already decided that ... Without seeing any others! Which suggests you created this thread with a preconceived bias under the intention to troll.

It's one thing to visit a city and then ask natives later, "help me understand what i saw." it's quite another to visit a city, tell natives "you are the worst place in your region ... Of course, i've not yet seen anything else in your region ... But i'm sure i'll like those places over you!"
Nail.

Head.

I don't think Midtown needs to necessarily add more attractions. I'd just rather see it continue to urbanize and develop into a higher density live-work-play district. Give me street retail in Midtown over a tourist attraction any day.

I am from Miami and Downtown Miami isn't a destination and you know that. Are you going to point Guest to downtown Miami or would you point them to the beach first for the best shopping restaurants and nightlife etc. People are not traveling to Miami to see downtown Miami. They know its not where things are poppin

When I travel Im not expecting everything to be downtown because if your a frequent traveler you would know every cities best attributes are not in there downtown area. I always ask when I visit a place is where are the best areas to visit that are exciting. That's the question that should be asked.

I agree - Downtown is the place for the big tourist attractions, and there is a pretty impressive tourism campus taking shape around Centennial Park. As for Midtown, I do wish the "Midtown Mile" retail corridor would materialize. There are still a lot of vacant storefronts in the two big developments on Peachtree near 12th Street. In any case, Midtown already has the best tourist attraction in the city - Piedmont Park.

Is everything in New York City 'downtown'? NO. San Francisco? NO. Los Angeles? NO.
The entertainment scene in most every city radiates out beyond downtown...including Atlanta. To think otherwise is provincial and uninformed. Thanks for stating what I would like to have, SS.

Fact is killadelphia is extremely poor, violent, horrible topography, weak nightlife, majority hootrat women, no AA professional nightlife band they are forced to drive to DC to party, horrible taxes, over 40k abandoned buildings, etc
I go for quality over quantity. What is the point in partying all night in Atlanta if the quality if low? No, I will take Philly for nightlife - atleast while they close at 2 the quality is higher while open IMO. Oh, and let's not forget Philly has Atlantic City within their metro area. AC parties all night and blows Atlanta away in nightlife. I believe Philly vs Atlanta is just total opinion or preference though.

And no, again - let me repeat. Atlanta does not have more visitors than Philly or Vegas. Just because someone connects at your airport for an hour doesn't mean they are "visiting" a city. And everything you just stated is not a fact, just opinion.

On city data density/walkability/transit/sidewalks overrule all else. Nothing else really matters.
