My landlord has discovered mold in my basement apartment. The basement is a cement slab and the water is leaking from a split or damaged pipe underneath my shower. This bath is adjacent to a bedroom and now that a piece of the carpet has been removed, I can see the black mold on the wall where the baseboard was located. For a few days there were commercial dehumidifiers in the bath and that bedroom (adjacent to the bedroom where I sleep), however, it appears they have stopped work and apparently want me to move. I am unable to have the money to move instantly. What are his responsibilities in regards to helping me move? I have already paid for October but feel as if I am beginning to have asthma or a bronchitis event.

I'm not 100% sure on this, but I can tell you that you will probably get better answers in the "Renters" section of the Real Estate Forum. I've had a nightmare situation with a landlord for months and have always gotten good feedback there. Good luck!

Do you have renters insurance - if so check with them

Sorry for the bad situation you're in.

How far are you into your lease? They should prorate a refund on your rent for when you move out and give you your security deposit back. This should allow you to use those funds to find another place if they aren't going to fix the problem while you are there. That's definitely a habitability issue. Running dehumidifiers without fixing the underlying cause is just a band aid. In Georgia they have 30 days from move out to return security deposit, but they should really speed up getting the money back to you since they are the ones that are breaking the lease. The problem may be finding a place to move quickly enough. Is this a private landlord? Do they have any other rental properties?
