Seeking advice on burned down home lot
We've been looking at homes for quite some time now and I recently came across a home that had burned down but has been sitting there untouched on a nice piece of land for at least 4 months. Obviously, there is nobody living in the home. I am trying to find out the best way to find the status of this home/property, but don't know where to start. Thought I'd post here and see if anyone has advice. I don't even think there's a mailbox in tact. I guess I could ask a neighbor but I thought if there's something more 'official' that could be done, I'd start with that.
thanks!

Go to the county tax assessor's office and find out who's listed as the owner of the parcel. Send them a nice letter asking what the status of the property is, as you may be interested in purchasing it. It's that easy.

What county is it in? There might be information available online. Dekalb County is at https://dklbweb.dekalbga.org/taxcommissioner/search.asp. I had Fulton, but I apparently didn't bookmark it. Good luck in your search.

Thanks, everyone. It's in Dekalb and it looks like it's still under the original owners name. Unfortunately, I've had no luck getting in touch with them so I guess it's out of my hands!

I do not know if this is too creepy for you, but you could always knock on a couple of the neighbor's doors to see if they have current contact information (and expalin your situation). Just an idea.

Not sure I feel comfortable doing that...but maybe if it's still in the same condition in a few months time I will give it a shot.
