I heard that they offered to upgrade the Silverbacks to MLS but they were not interested. So I will be interested to know as well.

Where is that from?

Maybe Atlanta Phoenix or something like Atlanta United or FC Atlanta.

Ooo, I do like Atlanta Phoenix. I am totally sold on that name now.

Dunno about the FC Atlanta or Atlanta United. As a non soccer fan, it makes me care less. But then again, I'm not the target audience so my opinion really shouldn't be considered

That name would be confusing. Especially if they ever play a team from Phoenix.

While having zero interest in soccer as a sport, I do think this is terrific news for the city!

Huzzah! Though I'm not surprised since we have been filling the Dome whenever there is an international friendly in town and we have one of the most active amateur leagues around.

As for the name: PLEASE GOD LET US NOT NAME THEM "ATLANTA UNITED"!!!!!! I'm a big Man City supporter and that would literally make me vomit.

F.C. as part of the name is a given since, well, it will be a football club so we just need to sort out what the rest of the name should be.

My thoughts are that it should convey the history of the city and/or our cultural identity:

City of Atlanta
Atlantica-Pacifica
Standing Peachtree
Piedmont Ridge
New Echota (Pronounced Chota)
The Southern Cross (might be too controversial, but it's a pretty bad ass name)
Peacemakers
Resurgens (If not this name, it should be on the team crest upon the breast of a flaming Phoenix regardless)

My far fetched dream is for Blank to license the Atlanta Track Club name for the team. It would be a awesome way to attract a loyal following of supporters for the team (the club has 19000 members, including myself) aside from those us who are already footie fanatics. Plus their crest is already pretty dope

I really like Phoenix. I also agree FC or United is too much of a "wannabe" type name and kind of confusing for the non soccer fans that will hopefully become soccer fans. Too bad the WNBA team used Dream because I actually like that.
