I'm a young professional and have to temporarily relocate for work (near North Ave Station in Midtown/Downtown) for 3-6 months before coming back to Virginia/DC. All of the recommendations I've heard so far are to stay in Midtown. As I know very little about Atlanta, any suggestions of where to look for housing or areas to avoid in Midtown / around Georgia Tech would be greatly appreciated!

I'll be working long hours, so close to work in a place that I can consistently sleep and park a car is all I need. No pets or family. Being able to walk to a restaurant or bars once in a while would be a plus. Furnished would be a major plus, though I could rent furniture for ~$500/mo. A month to month lease would be ideal, though any temporary lease length (3 month, 4 month, etc) could work. I'd like to keep the total cost of housing + furnished + utilities under $2200/mo, which is the ballpark price I'm seeing so far for corporate housing. Thanks in advance!!

Is your work covering the rent?

Either way, I wouldn't do a month-to-month lease b/c you'll get gouged, and most landlords won't accept it anyway. I'd do 6 months at min.

There's no places to avoid in midtown, anywhere from GA Tech to Monroe. Just don't pay more for rent than you have to.

Work is giving me a flat stipend to help offset the cost, though it won't come close to covering the whole thing. What would you consider reasonable rent for a 1BR in that area? I agree the month-to-month rate seems high, much higher than I was expecting. Thanks!

+1 for midtown

A nice new place in midtown will probably run you $900 - $1800 for a 1 BR for a normal lease.

Month to month probably add 10% to 25%.

You also could probably find a good arrangement from an owner of a condo on craigslist or something if you needed to save a bit.

If work is giving you a stipend then live along Virginia Avenue.
