You have to wonder why the guy did this after being warned not to.

Still, kicking him out for the whole year seems excessive. Unless there's more to it I would think a suspension of a few weeks would be more appropriate.

Teachers says she warned him. He says he wasn't. Of course, it's a he-said, she-said. And usually the accuser is the one believed.

There is absolutely no reason for a suspension of this nature if he doesn't have a written warning of such a thing before. But I'm also of the feeling that hugs are not sexual harassment, and a hug shouldn't jeopardize someone's future.

I don't think the teacher should be subjected to unwanted physical contact. But, surely, somewhere along the road, she was advised to document, document, document. Her failure to do so is what is causing the problem.

Too many young males aren't graduating as it is. He should have been reprimanded, in writing, and given a warning that the next time, the penalty would be severe.

Is it documented in writing that she told him this? I have serious personal space issues, and would HATE being hugged by someone not a family member, but she's a teacher. If he was warned enough to warrant suspension, why on earth is there no paper trail? If there is no paper trail, then it didn't happen. When did HUGS become sexual harassment anyway? Esp worth a years suspension and potentially ruining a kids chance at a future when it's a he-said, she-said, thing? Good grief, when did all kids become presumed criminals?

A year for a hug? Are they this harsh on mean kids that have a history of bullying others?

I read the article before I watched the clip. The article made it sound like he sneaked up behind her and hugged her around the waist. The clip looks a lot more innocent than that, but honestly, I would not have liked it much either. Unexpected physical contact is not the best idea ever. I do think the punishment was too severe though.

I fully believe that there is more to this story than what is included in the article. It would be a ridiculously unfair punishment for a hug by a student with no other prior disciplinary issues.

Odd case. I feel bad for him though.

I feel like there could be more to the story. And maybe the teacher is no angel in this whole thing. Who knows.
