I just happened to click on Wikipedia's list of CSA estimates. I was shocked by some of the growth figures. It shows Boston as growing 7.26%, from 7.8 million to 8.4 million!! Chicago has reached 10 million. I noticed all the numbers were bigger than the last time I looked. I went to the Census.gov website and checked and it seems they have seen increases. It shows Atlanta as having grown by 6.56% since 2010, from 5.9 million to 6.3 million. I just wonder if more counties have been added?

I just can't figure out these numbers. The census verifies some of them, but not some of the others. I wonder where these figures came from?

Yes but that was done before these figures appeared on Wikipedia. After Athens was added, it placed Atlanta's CSA at 6.1 million for 2012. The new number there says 6.3 million. It also shows almost all of the CSA's getting lots bigger. It now has NYC at nearly 24 million, when it was 22 million a little while ago. Something fishy is going on. I wonder if they have access to some kind of early numbers.

at that rate, atlanta's CSA will be larger than both houston's and miami's very soon. houston and miami are growing slightly slower than us.

Then the CSA is trash.

That means the CSA goes from the Alabama Border to Athens and that's a 2.5-3 hour drive at least.

That doesn't give you any real feel for the size of the area.

Athens way to far to be involved in most people's lives in that have anything do with Atlanta.

They may as well as Macon.

Add Rome too.

The same can be said about Miami and Houston

the MSA for atlanta doesn't include all those areas and the change is negligible: about half a million less populationwise. ultimately it doesn't matter how far you 'go out' of the atlanta area, simply adding more areas doesn't 'pump up' our numbers enough to make a real statistical difference.

True. The drive from Key Largo to Vero Beach would take that long.

Miami and Houston don't really seem to have massive differences between MSA and CSA population, but yeah, Atlanta's CSA is atricious. Athens is not Atlanta.
