Hey everyone,

I just moved here and am still looking at houses. I like the East Cobb area and thinking of buying around there. I've heard good things about Wheeler but mostly from people who have had kids in the magnet program. I like that the school is diverse but I definitely want my son (he's 10 now, will be starting middle school this year) going to schools that encourage education. I'm curious about the quality of the high school for those that DIDN'T make it into the magnet program.

He also has Asperger's if that makes a difference, and he has difficulty understanding things sometimes (ie. things he reads, making inferences about things, understanding motivations, etc.), but he's great with concrete math and numbers. He's not a great test taker though, so I'm not sure that he'd make it into the magnet program. Mostly he is probably going to be an average student (this is my assumption based on his past performance). At his current school in NY, he is also getting a lot of help becuase of the Aspergers (speech therapy, OT, social skills groups, Reading Comprehension, etc.)

I thought Wheeler may be a good fit as it will likely be less competetive than Walton or Pope.

Thanks!!!!

I would not recommend Wheeler high school if he is not going to the magnet program. If you want to consider East Cobb, you should consider Walton high school.

Wheeler is an excellent high school with a great, supportive community behind it.
