I can't find it in the IRC, so does anyone here know what constitutes an approved material for parking surfaces on a residential property? I'd like to put down gravel, but want to make sure it is code compliant.

Also, would I have to get a permit to put down gravel on an old dirt parking area?

I don't think there is a requirement for permitting, but I thiiiiink I've heard gravel is counted as an impervious surface. City of Atlanta limits impervious surfaces to 50% of the total lot without getting variances. It eludes me why gravel would be considered impervious, but I know other hardscapes like stepping stones, patios, and decks and included in that calculation.

Thanks red. Isn't it 50% of the required setback, rather than the lot?

Either way, maybe I'll just "find" that there is gravel under all that dirt and avoid the whole thing
