In Buckhead, not only are sidewalks sparse, but people often plant shrubbery in the front of their yards that pretty much forces you into the streets.

Uncle! I surrender to your vastly superior nitpickyness.
Oh goodness, make sure you refer to the areas on the Chattahoochee as National Recreation Areas. Sure don't want to give anyone the impression that they are parks run by the National Park Service.

ATLiens aren't afraid of rail. We have a subway for christ's sake.

It depends on what part of Buckhead you're talking about. Some have good sidewalks; others don't.

I am wondering if folks took our recent storm days to consider what it means to be "car dependent."

For millions of Atlantans, not being able to drive literally means not being able to survive. You can't get food. You can't get medical attention. You can't go to work or attend school.

And 2 inches of snow isn't the only thing that can shut down a car dependent society. Some of us are old enough to remember the gas crises of the 1970s. Gas was rationed and in many cases there was literally none to be had, at any price.

Indeed. Remember the mini-gas crisis we had just a few years ago?
