According to an exhaustive study recently conducted by the city of Atlanta, the top neighborhood is Cabbagetown.

The detailed study utilized a team of 50 field investigators who covered virtually every house in the city limits, evaluating 25 factors including transportation options, access to greenspace, crime, quality of education, curb appeal and income.

Read it and weep, Inman Park, Garden Hills, Virginia Highland and Ansley Park!

When the city of Atlanta wants to hire a consultant to conduct a study they don't mess around.

Probably, Ansley Park. But, really just put me in one of the nicer neighborhoods in a house overlooking a quiet park, and I would be set.

for some reason i have a hard time seeing buckhead as 'part of atlanta' in the way that other neighbourhoods are. buckhead, to me, is sort of its own thing altogether. i feel the same way about decatur. decatur is not really 'intown atlanta', it's decatur. it doesn't make it any less impressive, just different. decatur and buckhead are really more boroughs in themselves rather than part of the inner city. that's just me, though.

Hi,
I am new to this blog so sorry if I'm not following the rules.
I am from Southern California, been in ATL for 3 years, struggling to decide to stay here or go to Florida.
I work for Delta, am out of town 18 days a month. Proximity to the airport is a priority. Being a single man I'd like to have access to some sort of social life, I'm -I hate to say it - in my early 50's but not feeling it. That said, little 5 points seems too urban/ raw/gritty, I'm past worrying about being hip but want a nice place or two to take a female friend to dinner or coffee, looking for someplace SAFE, condo or small 2/1 house with a budget of +/- $150K, really trying to like atlanta because living here vs Florida would make life easier, tho I do miss the beach and laid back vibe of beach cities. I don't want to be house poor so I can enjoy job perks AND TRAVEL. My tastes are modest, I prefer 50's brick ranches to fancy condos. Don't really have zip-code envy, not trying to impress anybody. Just want a nice neighborhood vibe, eclectic is ok, do not want gang bangers, petty criminals, thugs and street people as neighbors. Really not ready for Kennesaw and soccer moms. ANY help would be GREATLY appreciated. Best to everybody. Stay safe and warm.

Impossible to choose just one for me.
Inman Park, Virginia Highlands, Brookhaven.

I for some reason love the aesthetics of Glenwood Park. So good looking. Love love love.

there are some laid back parts of the city. have you looked at reynoldstown? tell you what, one day take a trip over to home grown for breakfast:

http://goo.gl/maps/058Qm

and then walk around and check out the neighbourhood. you may also want to check out cabbagetown, which is directly to the west. transit is good as there's a couple of marta stations nearby— you could hop on the train and be at the airport in 25 minutes or less. prices are relatively cheap now, but they're going up. i find this to be one of the most laid back areas of the city; relatively nice and slow.
