This plan is not insurance, it is a discount program for dental work:

We opted to go this route because the dental insurance was expensive, and didn't cover things such as root canals 100% either. You can sign up online, and because it's an Aetna program, we found it to be widely accepted. It also offers discounts on eye care.

I would call up some dentists first. A lot of them will probably be very willing to work with you on price if you pay up front with cash.

Agree a discount plan, or talking to a dentist for a cash discount would be your best bet. All most all insurances have a 1 year waiting clause on major procedures, so they dont have people signing up, maximizing the insurance and then dropping it, dental insurance is a rip off because of that, plus they normally only cover about 50% of the procedure fee on top of that. The place you will come out ahead with having insurance is if you have a doc that is in-network, because their fees are lower, but you are typically giving up more personalized care as the docs need to do a higher volume to make up for that loss.
