IT job market in/around Atlanta, getting better?
Hello. I currently reside in South Florida were the cost of living is rising and IT/computer are just not paying as much anymore. I keep hearing stories about Atlanta IT jobs pay more, and are more available. I did a monster & career building search and it seems that help desk support/network assistance jobs are available with pay 30-35K which is ok for me since I am a single guy with no kids. Any feedback, as for changes in the IT Atlanta job market now that we are going into 2008?

They used to pay $40-50k, when I was there the salaries went down some I guess because while there are a lot of jobs, there are A LOT of people to fill those jobs.
I moved elsewhere with less IT jobs, but even less experienced people to fill them and got a raise.

Yes, salaries for IT jobs have dropped. I have been with my current employer for 9 years so am not currently experiencing it, but if I were to get laid off relocating would probably be a good possibility.

Symphonyof skys, As you are seeing on Monster.com there are always a large number of IT job postings her in the Atlanta area. The population growth rate here continues and the IT job market seems to grow along with it. It's a good time to move to Atlanta. Good Luck.

There are a good number of IT jobs available, but the biggest issue is that companies are now demanding ALOT more skills for a considerable amount less compensation. My advice is to shell out your resume to headhunters. I know its a PITB to deal with some of them, but contracting is the way to go up here now.

The hiring process in IT-related fields has been broken for the past decade, and it's only getting worse.
