I literally passed 3 cars on my way to work holding up the left lane due to texting, talking on the phone, and the last one because he didn't want to move. I wish Dekalb police would use undercover vehicles to catch these people.

Final OK for Georgia

And what purpose will a law like this serve?

Those are all actions that are already illegal. We don't need a new law.

You do bring up a great point though, if they want to pass a law that would be meaningful, then allow undercover police vehicles to make traffic stops like most states do. Remove the requirement for minimum speeding of 10 mph over to give a ticket. Remove the lack of points for speeding under 15 mph.

this does not apply to GSP or if you're being paced from behind. It only applies to speed detection devices.

The notion seems to be that the best way to deal with a problem is to add another rule, as opposed to more strictly enforcing the ones already on the books. Speaking of which:

100% agree. If cops would step up to the plate and consistently enforce traffic laws, and the traffic court judges would stop letting people off the hook, I guarantee you that a lot of BS on our roads would stop. There is an entitlement mentality on Georgia's roadways that has gotten out of hand. People think they have the right to drive with their headlights off when it's dark or raining, or to travel 85 in a 55 zone, or to pass school buses that are stopped for children, or to claim that "TAG APPLIED FOR" is a legitimate license tag, or to turn left at intersections clearly marked "No left turn", etc. Those people had better be glad *I'm* not a cop, because I couldn't pull them over fast enough.

Here's a thought, if the speed limits were reasonable maybe people would obey them.

They are not, so they don't.

Yes, I understand that nuance, but GSP is a very small force for a state of Georgia's size, and the overwhelming enforcement (or lack thereof) is by county and local police.

Maybe having a state police agency that has more than one trooper to cover vast swaths of highway, and often no troopers at night, could be a first start. One of the differences in GA is the relatively tiny GSP and relatively small presence on the highways. Compared to many states, the state police here are practically invisible.
