With everything from the rising crime rate, the drought/water shortage, and Michael Vick, it seems that 2007 hasn't exactly been one of the best years for Atlanta. What do you think? Let's hope 2008 will be better.

I personally think (hope?) that 2007 was a good year for Atlanta BECAUSE of the water shortage. Changes have been needed for awhile now, and this was a wake-up call. Some people made permanent changes in 2007 in response to the drought. Yards were replanted with xeriscapes, water saving devices installed. Some govt. red tape was cut through, and hopefully the NIMBYs decided to approve future water reservoirs.

i think this was a bad year for the entire country, not just ATL. The housing / job markets have slowed everywhere, not just Atlanta...and with each slowdown in the economy, it usually has an equal up-tick in crime. Hopefully, once the housing troubles subside in the next 2 years, things will pick back up again. I think ATL's economy is diversified enough to weather the storm.

Don't forget about the King of the South, TI. Yep, it was a bad year.

yeah, 2007 kind of sucked. The economy boom started to go bust all over. I mean, no one thought the housing market slump would affect Atlanta as badly as it did!

Here's an article from ajc that pretty much says what I said in the original post. I like it's openining statement:

"If 2007 was a Christmas present, most Atlantans would've returned it six days ago. In fact, they probably would've been first in line when the doors opened. Not that there would've been much of a refund."

Happy New Year!
