My family and I are contemplating a move to the Sandy Springs area. How much noise is there from air traffic into and out of Dobbins Air Force Base?

Thanks, Gary

Almost none. It is not an AFB anymore. It is just a reserve base now and hardly used. We live under the flight paths of the Fulton County Airport and we get more noise than Dobbins has. Airport noise is like the wind though. You hear it so much, it doesn't bother you.

We're in central Sandy Springs and hear only a couple of aircraft a week. You would have to be outside meditating to notice much more. Now, firetrucks...that's another story.

Dobbins noise is more a factor for people in Smyrna but also in parts of the Wildwood area. I know - I was thinking of buying a condo at one of the complexes in Wildwood, and the day I went to go visit, 4 fighter jets flew over, deafening me. The sales agent claimed this was "not typical", but it was enough to make me look elsewhere.

I'm in Marietta, a few miles NW of Dobbins, and when F-22's or F-18's (and to a lesser degree C-141s) are taking off on Rwy 29, you can hear them. I'm a pilot, so personally, it doesn't bother me, and I love looking up over my house and seeing a formation of 2 fighters doing their thing, but you can hear them and they are loud.

I live near Chastain Park inside 285, just inside Sandy Springs. There is still a lot of air traffic in & out of Dobbins. Alomost every night it looks like they could skid across my roof. It is loud and a problem on my homes true value. There should be tax breaks for thos of us living under the planes!
