IT Industry
I was wondering if anyone else here is in the IT industry? Specifically software development. If so, I was wondering how the jobs are around Atlanta. Inside and outside. Specifically around Kennesaw (30-45 minute drive is ok). When I move there, I'll still being doing some consulting jobs for a couple of companies, but I'd like to know how the job market is in my field. From everything I've read , it looks to be pretty good. But I rather hear it from someone who actually lives there.
Thanks!

It will depend on what type of IT your skill set is. The big IT market did a huge down swing about 5 years ago and I got caught in it. I was a tech writer, cert. web designer, graphics and did a small amount of DB work.
I did consulting for about 15 years and never had a problem getting work. Then poof gone. I do know that network folk and hardware folk are still employed but since I've gone back to an old field of employment I'm not keeping up on what's new.

I'm a software engineer with about 10 years experience. Been working with C++, .Net CS, and MSSQL mostly.

Any new information on Software Jobs in the Atlanta area? With the economic downturn and the number of layoffs, is Atlanta feeling the recession? What about the number of Software Engineer's there; is it increasing, decreasing? How large is the community? What is the experience level of engineer's in ATL? Do experienced engineers move out of ATL or move in?

Where can you start to look if you're just a recent college grad with absolutely no experience at all? I'm willing to start off low as an entry-level but I just heard today that Microsoft is cutting for 5000 jobs. That's just terrible

I'm a SR Oracle DBA and also possibly looking for some opportunites in Atlanta. THe IT job market in Atlanta appears to be very, very strong. Sort of the same IT strength in the Philly area. I was always trying to figure out which neighborhood to live in that's not like an hour traffic drive to work everyday. Then again I hear many companies allow telecommuting in Atlanta due to the traffic issues. I don't know why more companies don't allow telecommuting. They're only saving money, providing improved work balance and more than likely getting more out of their employess when telecommuting. But for the most part I'm clueless about Atlanta and still learning about it. I always hear that most of the IT jobs are in the northern part of Atlanta all the way up through Alpharetta. Myself I'm thinking Rosewell, Sandy Springs or Dundwoody. THe thing that scares me from this great southern city are the traffic nightmare stories I often hear about. If you're an IT person I would recommend the northern part of Atlanta. Just my two cents. Again I am still learning.
