If we built another airport it wouldn't change the fact that Atlanta is one of the best locations to fly from.

Right. Atlanta isn't the busiest airspace to begin with. We benefit from having a single airport, just as Beijing does.

I predict ATL will finish ahead of PEK by a decent margin in 2014, but lose the top spot this decade.

JAN 2014

Last update : April 29, 2014

Passenger Traffic
Total passengers enplaned and deplaned, passengers in transit counted once
Total %Chg
1 BEIJING, CN (PEK) 7 060 527 9.2
2 ATLANTA GA, US (ATL) 6 779 582 (3.3)
3 DUBAI, AE (DXB) 6 400 706 15.1
4 LOS ANGELES CA, US (LAX) 5 419 015 7.3
5 TOKYO, JP (HND) 5 408 046 8.5
6 LONDON, GB (LHR) 5 387 073 3.8
7 HONG KONG, HK (HKG) 5 115 000 11.6
8 JAKARTA, ID (CGK) 4 929 518 6.0
9 DALLAS/FORT WORTH TX, US (DFW) 4 922 467 5.6
10 SINGAPORE, SG (SIN) 4 596 764 6.3

Thanks Southwest Airlines for all your flight cuts once you merged with Air Tran, Atlanta is now number two again. Not sure if the bad weather had an effect also. Notice passenger traffic declined 3.3 % in Atlanta. Yikes!
Hartsfield-Jackson ain't sweating at all. We had a frumpy Winter, no worries. Wait until those end of year statistics are released. I know I'm flying at least 7 times between June and August. Folks are waiting on Bejing to strip Atlanta of the worlds busiest title, but it ain't happening in 2014 either. They can try again next year.

O'Hare was the world's busiest airport for forever. It hasn't been in a LONG time. I don't see too many people in Chicago fretting over it.

Say whaaaa???

What difference does it really make with ATL being the busiest airport in the world?

Busiest does in no means mean the best. In fact, theres usually an inverse relationship when it comes to that.

Dubai international is huge and I hate it. Same goes for Heathrow. Give me Munich any day.
